Music Therapy

Music Therapy is an established health profession where music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, communicative, and social needs of children. Elements of music such as pitch, rhythm, phrase, cadence and prescriptive silences are utilized by the therapist to elicit and shape a child’s responses. Music Therapy interventions are success oriented and are adapted to allow participation at any level of functioning.

Music Therapists at Children’s Therapy Corner work in collaboration with your child’s other treating therapists to provide opportunities to work on goals across disciplines and settings to help generalize skills gained.

Participating in music making activities allows a child to use and integrate multiple sensory/motor systems, activating multiple areas of the brain at the same time. Vision, auditory, motor, tactile, language, proprioceptive, and vestibular systems are all engaged while making music, even for the youngest Music Therapy clients. This ‘whole brain’ activation helps to make strong connections for learning or making pathways around damaged areas of the brain.
