Feeding/SOS Approach

Therapist helps child feed herself

The “SOS Approach” is a method that is used to treat both “picky eaters” and “problem feeders.” SOS stands for sequential – oral – sensory.

This approach takes into consideration the whole child, including sensory development, how the child is able to move food around in his/her mouth, and how stable the child is when sitting to eat. It is a common misconception that a child just needs to sit down and eat. In reality, the child needs to be able to maintain an upright posture without falling over. They need strength to support their breathing, body awareness of how to chew food, and they need to be okay with what is in their mouth.

If your child is struggling with eating, please contact Children’s Therapy Corner and set up a consultation to see if we can help your child be more successful with eating!
